Bill Clinton takes credit to this day for the comprehensive Welfare Reform Act he signed.
What he WON'T tell you is, that bill passed a Republican-controlled House and Senate and was gonna be shoved up his butt.
That's the way this whole thing works - the House creates the bills and sends them to the President, not the other way around.

If he did what most knee-jerk, bleeding-heart, hand-wringing Liberals advocated, the bill would have gotten a veto - but he signed it.
His Lobotomized Liberal minions would have had a collective stroke if he did not let them in on his little scheme....
You may recall, the House shut the gov't down - completely -  for a few days because they would not approve bloated spending bills.
Did it twice as I recall, all government offices closed and all non-essential personnel sat home.

Slick Willie knew the Republicans would go to Hell and back to get Welfare reform in place, so he pulled an Ace from his sleeve.
Being the shrewd political operator he is (a politician like no other in recent time) he signed the bill - and made it HIS idea!
Bill Clinton has bragged about his fiscal responsibility, his participation in responsible government spending like he invented it.
Nobody in the Republican House or Senate at the time gets credit, certainly not House Speaker Newt Gingrich....

Thru the fuzzy lense of history - Bill left office eight years ago you know - he is now able to trade on his status as an elder statesman.
The college-age and first time voters were still in elementary school then, so revisionist history funneled thru academia hits the mark.

The NeoConMan-Approved Strategy To Implement REAL Welfare Reform.
Like a lot of folks in this nation, I have a job. I work, they pay me. I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit.
In order to get that paycheck, I am required to pass a random urine test - I have no problem with that.
What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test.
Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check because I have to pass one to earn it for them?

Please understand, I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet.
I do, on the other hand, have a problem with helping someone sitting on their ass, doing drugs, while I work. . . .
Can you imagine how much money the government would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check?

Here's a line that gives a Liberal the vapors - Can't feed 'em? Don't breed 'em!!!
How about this? If you have a child while on public assistance, your benefit does not go up.
Even Welfare Moms would be hard-pressed to afford raising children, just like the rest of us who actually contribute something.

How about drug tests to live in subsidized housing?
Fail one test, get a second test done - today.
Fail that one and you pack you stuff and hit the streets with the other druggies.

Here's where another dose of NeoConMan Reality rears its ugly head.
Get the turds, the lifers, the dead weight, and the ne'er-do-wells OFF the welfare roles.
Oh, but this will force them into a life of crime according to the Lefty types.
My assertion is this;
They ALREADY commit a crime by using illicit drugs. If they want to step up their game and turn to more crime to "survive" in a nation with the fattest poor people, then let them land in jail. If I'm paying to feed, clothe and pamper these morons, I want them kept under close eye.

Finally, the ones left over, the true Welfare Moms trying to do the right thing, would be the primary beneficiaries of the programs intended for them to start with way back in the New Deal-turned-Great Society days of quasi-Socialism before World War Two.
I think we can all come closer to agreement if we are truly helping the truly needy.

Something has to change in this country -- and soon!!!
