Voter fraud has been an ever-present concern since the inception of this nation, some fears are well-founded.
In 2008, a new word entered the American lexicon as the very definition of fraud at the ballot box - ACORN.
Barack Obama has been a little too comfortable with the "work" they do, and has not distanced himself from them at all.
Seems the principles of honesty and integrity take a back seat to sheer numbers in the can...

To get one silly notion out of the way, I will say that Obama won the 2008 election.
Maybe not fair and square, but there was a margin of victory in excess of 7 million votes so the majority has clearly spoken.
It's not a problem with the vote, the problem lies with the voters...

In no way do I see the need for a repeat of the stupidity of the 2000 election with butterflies and hanging chads, or the antics of the Liberal extremist/anarchist types trying to recreate it in 2004. My concern lies with stopping the stupidity and making the vote fair and accessible to every eligible voter in the nation or serving abroad.


Some Things Have To Change
Here's the first thing we need to change - Tuesday voting. Move it to Saturday, and open the polls from 5 AM to 11 PM.
Most people work Monday through Friday. Of the millions working on Saturday, how many can't make it to the polls with those hours?

Next is mailing out ballots for early voting. The county elections office in Phoenix was more than happy to mail TWO ballots to me.
Seriously, one was addressed to my wife, but how does she know where my wife is? There's no burden of proof, and no way of knowing if I simply filled hers out to duplicate mine and voted twice for everybody I like.

When we went to the polling place the week before election day, all we had to do as early voters was simply drop our ballots in the can with no waiting or validation of ID. With the counterfeiting capability to make $20 bills, what would stop somebody from printing up a bunch of duplicate ballots? They are simply thick paper card stock with the most rudimentary print on them - easy to reproduce.
The ballot should NEVER leave the poll, they should be treated with the care and custody given to any secret ballot anyplace.
I was elected as VP of my senior class under tighter scrutiny in a public high school.

Why did I vote early? For the convenience, mostly. I don't want to stand around in lines for hours. I'm afraid it really is that simple.
My work schedule is a little insane, and the wife and I both work over 20 miles from our polling place. It is conceivable that events could conspire to keep either of us from the polls, so we simply opted to vote early as I've done for years.
I would give up that luxury in return for a secure vote.


Licensed To Drive, But Not To Vote?
Here's an idea that will put the Libertarian pin heads in a fit of rage. Make the states put your voter status on your driver's license.
My thinking behind this, after carefully considering the most Orwellian "privacy" issues, is this - there's no info other than a yes or no.
If you are registered to vote in your state, the odds are pretty good you have a driver's license. For those who are not licensed drivers for some reason, most still get a state-issued ID card that is almost identical to a license. Just mark an x in a box for yes or no.

The brain-dead Liberals and civil libertarian "truthers" out there insist on fighting the notion that you should show proof of identification in order to vote. This makes absolutely no sense.
You have to show ID to cash a check at your own bank. I'm more than twice the legal drinking age and I have to show ID to buy beer.
What possible reason could there be to refuse to show the registrar at the polls proof of who you are? If you're in the Witness Protection Program, you're probably a convicted felon and cannot vote anyway. If you can vote, you have a new name!

The only other reason to deny your true identity at the ballot box is to enable multiple votes from you. Not gonna happen.
