ASK NOT WHAT YOUR COUNTRY CAN DO FOR YOU;
Ask What YOU Can Do For Your Country.
There's a sense of entitlement settling over this country that has been halted from time to time, but has still oozed into the cracks of this nation since before John F. Kennedy uttered those famous words during his inaugural address in 1961.
The election of Barack Obama to the Presidency of the United States of America has galvanized this mindset into millions and validated it for millions more. There's no longer any shame in getting what's yours if it comes at the expense of others, for no other reason than you were "smart" enough to reach out and simply take it. Hey, if nobody stops you it must mean it's all cool....
There's still a substantial number of Americans who know what it really means to serve - that it doesn't refer to waitressing.
Those who have served in the military since the draft was ended over 30 years ago, those who teach or fight fires and crime.
There are some serving in government who still get it, though I fear they are a minority. The election of 2008 validates this for me.
The Red Scare
In the 1950's during the hottest of the Cold War, there was a clear and present danger of our lives being extinguished in a single afternoon by a volley of nuclear weapons. Adding to that fear was the decree from the Soviet Union that Capitalism would fall.
This was a metaphor used to sugarcoat the real intent of taking the USA down, and by extension capitalism along with it.
The Red Scare came from the idea that Communists within our country were aiding the Soviets, and it was not without merit.
Many people were blacklisted from jobs, some were jailed, and a couple (Julius and Ethel Rosenberg) put to death for treason.
By the sixties, the hippies were ignoring any such notions and living for themselves. They espoused contempt and hatred for the government, traditional American values, polite society, the rule of law, and anything they called the "establishment."
The liberation and freedom was enticing, like a dog whose leash just came unhooked.
(We all know what dismal fate befalls most stray dogs, but reality played no great role in anything the hippies did.)
Hippies, Viet Nam, Martin Luther King (whose message is lost on most) and war/race rioting defined the decade despite Kennedy.
The next four decades saw the decay of society with regular and vulgar displays to confirm it, all being touted as progress.
All of this brings me back to where I started.
Recently I wondered how many of the 63 million Obama voters would swear an oath to protect and serve this country.
I even came up with an oath that would fit the bill nicely, and it reads as follows;
"I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen;
That I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; That I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same;
That I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law;
That I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law;
That I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law;
And that I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion;
So help me God."
That is the Oath of Allegiance taken by immigrants who are finally becoming citizens of the United States of America.
We don't have to ask what they would do for this country, they just told us in no uncertain terms.
How many America-hating, European-loving, illegal immigrant-tolerating, war protesting, gun banning, selfish, Godless Obama voters would be willing to declare such allegiance and sign their John Hancock to it? Without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion?
There are millions who would not.
Would the number be two, ten or fifty million? I don't know, but I am positive the number would be staggering.
These very same people are now a majority in this country - think about that for a minute.
Right Wing Extremists
Our Founding Fathers, held up to the scrutiny of today's political climate, would make most of the Cult Of Obama soil their pants.
If you have even the most basic knowledge and understanding of what they envisioned and why they all left Olde Europe to start with, you already have an idea how far removed the Democratic Party is from having any ability to create or cultivate anything of value.
Oh, they talk a good line with their intellectualizing and rationalizing but they would be dead within a week during the Colonial Days.
Can you imagine Barack & Michelle Obama in an Atlantic colony in the Mayflower days?
Can you see him meeting "without preconditions" to discuss his plan for Change concerning the Native Americans and their lives?
I can see it now, Michelle gathering berries or seeds to feed her family because Barack ain't gonna kill anything to eat.
He would never have a gun, remember?
Fast forward to the Revolutionary War period, imagine Obama (or any Defeatocrat) contributing anything but hot air to the effort.
What about the continual skirmishes with Indians, French and Brits into the 1800's? What about the issue of slavery?
Civil War
In a passionate discussion with coworkers about race one night, I played a trump card that my black friends had never seen.
On a crew of about 30 men, 5 were black. We all got along pretty well and had an idea of the hot-button issues to inflame others.
There was a news story about the government considering the payment of reparations to the descendants of slaves on the radio and the dialogue went swirling from there. I was appalled at the obvious lack of historical knowledge and casual disdain for facts that some of my black coworkers displayed, while they became more insistent that white America "owes" them compensation.
I layed out several scenarios for them to consider such as;
If the government pays blacks for the sins against their fathers, they would be using tax money. Blacks pay taxes too....
In fixing blame on the white man, I asked them to consider blacks preying on blacks in Africa, and selling captives to slave traders.
Thomas Jefferson wrangled with slavery (All men?) while drafting the Constitution, and it was eventually deleted from the final draft.
When the slavery issue was finally settled during the Civil War (here's my trump card) what color were the soldiers?
That hit 'em right between the eyes.
Did it NEVER occur to them that the Union Army was almost exclusively white?
My father's family entered the Colonies in the late 1700's through what would become the state of Maine, what side did they choose?
To be fair, my mothers family arrived about the same time in Georgia but there's no evidence any of them were wealthy enough to own a slave. Sharecropping was their fate all the way into the early 1900's so their social standing wasn't much better than the blacks.
Basically, my final challenge to my black coworkers was this;
I didn't do it. My family didn't do it. None of us supported slavery in any way, and in fact there were lives of MY forefathers lost in the Union Army pursuit to ensure all men "created equal" would be treated as such in the eyes of God and Legislator alike.
Another thing bothers me about the public perception of the Civil War, that it was so simple-minded or single-focused.
The Union Army was also fighting to SAVE the United States of America and KEEP them united. They succeeded at that too.
I wonder if ANYBODY in the Cult of Obama would be able to recognize this fact, let alone give thanks to a Republican....
The Republican Party was born from the idea of all men truly being equal and sought to end the disparity between reality and law.
It is called the Party Of Lincoln for a reason - he was the first Republican.
The party that freed the slaves, faced the harshest realities, and stood by the truth has since seen the unanimous black vote erode and slip away to the empty promises of the Democratic Party, culminating in the social indoctrination-fueled Obama Presidency.
What would any of those 63 million Obama voters do for America if hardship demanded it - even if they did swear an oath?
Oath Of Office For President Of The United States
According to the US Constitution, Article II, Section 1, this is the oath for Obama;
"I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States."
Not much to it, huh?
Until now, I never considered the differences between the one for citizenship and the one for POTUS.
I'm wary of such a vague, simple oath given for the President, it consists of essentially nothing. Define "best of my ability" for me.
How far would a President have to go before this simple oath would be violated?
With Slick Willie Clinton as a recent example of the mockery of the Oval Office, what would Obama do to escape any unpleasantry?
